I survived my first year on another world.
Considering that I've been stabbed, shot, attacked by undead, and nearly had my brains melted by a magical artifact, I'm honestly surprised. All I was really missing was an official manhunt for the Elven wizard, and I'd have nailed every possible worst-case scenario.
Of course, the problem with living through so many crazy things, of helping others do the same, is that people start to assume you're capable and trustworthy. That you're the kind of person to go to with their problems. Now I'm some kind of Knight, with even more responsibilities, and a guilt-inducing number of duties to attend to. It's not even remotely ideal, because getting home is still the goal that I'm chasing. Still the dream I'm clinging to.
But for every step I take forward on that road, I'm shoved two steps back...
...and I'm not the only one from Earth who ended up on this rock.
